The D Nagar Police on Tuesday arrested a nurse for allegedly hurling invectives and obstructing a judicial magistrate from recording the dying declaration of a person in Jipmer.
Though the police registered a case against Usha Rani, staff nurse of Jipmer, on the charges of obstructing the judicial magistrate from discharging his official duty, earlier on Tuesday the Principal Sessions Judge had expressed his displeasure over the action taken so far.
Judicial Magistrate I Ezhil Velavan was recording the dying declaration of a 13-year-old accident victim from Ulundurpet when the nurse was training some of her junior staffers on a new equipment.
As she was reportedly speaking loudly at the adjacent room, the court staff who accompanied the magistrate requested her to keep silent for while.
Furious over this, she began to shout indiscriminately. Even as A. Subramani, a staffer accompanying the magistrate, tried to explain the situation to the nurse, she refused to pipe down and disrupted the recording of the dying declaration. She had allegedly even questioned the presence of the magistrate in the ICU ward without her permission.
Following registration of the case, she filed a petition seeking anticipatory bail. When the matter came up for hearing before Principal Sessions Judge C.S. Murugan on Tuesday, public prosecutor K.Shanmugam strongly opposed granting anticipatory bail.
