The Jipmer has launched an exclusive centre for early screening and treatment of breast disorders, including cancer.

Established as an inter-disciplinary centre of excellence, the Comprehensive Breast Care Centre will offer the gamut of services such as preventive/promotive health, risk assessment and risk reduction for breast cancer, personalised treatment of breast cancer using multidisciplinary expertise, cosmetic surgery and palliative care.

According to the Jipmer Director Dr. T.S. Ravikumar, the centre would function in a unique environment where experts of different clinical disciplines come together with a shared, common focus.

The new facility is a gift from the 1970 batch of Jipmer alumni, said Dr. Ravikumar, who has served as co-director of the Yale Comprehensive Breast Care Centre a few years ago.

Dr. D. Kadambari, Professor of surgery, who specialises in breast surgery, will lead the centre. The expert group at the centre include surgical oncologist, radiation oncologist, medical oncologist, plastic surgeon, pathologist, radiologist, geneticist, physiotherapist and counsellors.
