Jipmer introduces new services for outpatients

Several reproductive health clinics to be open for both men and women

The Jawaharlal Institute of Post graduate Mediccal and Research (Jipmer)’s Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology has revised the schedule of its outpatient services.

The department has introduced new services with an aim to deliver best patient care services, a press note said.

The roster of morning special clinics from 10 a.m. to noon (OPD – Designated Areas) is as follows: Adolescent Reproductive Health Care Clinic on Saturdays.

All girls aged between 10 and 19 will be offered general health check-up and reproductive health check- up. Reproductive health education and advice on vaccination will be undertaken.

Preconception clinic

Pre-conceptional care clinic will be conducted on Thursdays. Women planning pregnancy will be offered health check-up for screening and managing pre-existing diseases and managed to achieve optimal health prior to pregnancy.

Obstetric Medicine Clinic will be open on every Tuesday, Friday, and Saturday. Pregnant women with medical disorders such as epilepsy heart disease, diabetes, rheumatic disorders and so on would be seen by obstetricians and the respective medical physicians.

Daily clinic

Contraceptive advice and evaluation as per medical eligibility criteria and follow-up of women on contraception would be undertaken at the family planning clinic which will be open every day.

Women wanting to conceive (Primary and Secondary infertility, Recurrent Pregnancy Loss) will be evaluated and managed at the Infertility Clinic (Level 1 and 2). The clinic will be held on every Monday and Thursday.

Male Infertility Clinic to functon on every Saturday from July 2017.

Men with specific infertility problems would be seen by Andrologist / Male Gynaecologist husbands of all infertile women and particularly those whose semen analysis is sub-optimal and those with ejaculatory dysfunction and other diseases contributing to infertility should attend this clinic.

The afternoon special clinics on Wednesday from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. (OPD – Designated areas) will feature the following services:

Post-natal clinic

Periodic health check-up after delivery and Family Planning services are provided for puerperal women.

Colposcopy clinic

All women with abnormal pap tests and those women suspected to be having Cancer cervix will be offered colposcopic examination, screening for HPV-DNA test and those without cancer cervix will be managed by cryo-surgery.

Cancer clinic

All women with gynaecological cancer will be evaluated and multimodality of treatment will be offered after a combined decision by gynaecological oncologist, surgical oncologist, medical oncologist and radiation oncologist.

Menopause health clinic

All women in the peri-menopausal age (over 40) and post-menopausal women with menopausal symptoms will be offered general health check-up and screening for genital tract malignancies and breast cancer as per risk.

Screening for osteoporosis and other metabolic disorders would be undertaken and advice offered, the hospital has said.
