Jipmer counselling from Monday

Director S.C. Parija says that provisional admission order will be issued on June 29

Despite the delay in announcing MBBS entrance examination results, counselling for medical seats in the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research (Jipmer) will be held as per the schedule.

Addressing the media, Jipmer Director S.C. Parija on Friday said counselling to choose between Jipmer, Puducherry and Karaikal campuses will be held on Monday (June 20) for the Orthopaedic Physically Handicapped (OPH) candidates from 8 a.m. Followed by this, counselling will be held for candidates of unreserved category on Tuesday (June 21) and other backward category, Wednesday (June 22) for the SC/ST/Puducherry/NRI-OCI candidates from 8 a.m. On these days, allotment based on campus seat matrix and payment of fees will be done.

S. Mahadevan, Dean, Senior Professor and Head of Department, Paediatrics, added that the seats at the Jipmer campus in Puducherry will be allotted as follows – Nearly 50 seats for the unreserved category, 28 for the Other Backward Classes (OBC), 16 for SC, 11 for ST, 40 for Puducherry and five for the NRI/OCI (under self financing scheme). Under the Puducherry quota, unreserved category will be allotted 23 seats, 11 for the OBC and six for SC. At least four seats will be allotted to eligible OPH candidates on horizontal reservation basis.

For the Karaikal campus, 15 seats come under the unreserved category, 10 for OBC, 6 for SC, 4 for ST, 14 for Puducherry students and one for NRI/OCI (under self-financing scheme). Of the 14 seats for Puducherry students, seven seats will be for the unreserved, five for OBC and two for SC.

Dr. Parija stated that provisional admission order will be issued on June 29 (Wednesday) at 10 a.m. “Classes for the first year MBBS students will begin from July 1, 2016. The students from both Puducherry and Karaikal campus will undergo a foundation course at Jipmer Puducherry campus for the first six weeks,” he said.

Dr. Parija added that the students from the Karaikal campus will get back on August 16.
