An unidentified person gained access into Sri Siva Subramaniyar Temple in Pettichettipet near here and decamped with five sovereigns of jewellery adorning the presiding deity on Saturday.
The incident came to light when the temple priests entered the sanctum sanctorum after performing the daily pujas and raised an alarm.
The Temple authorities looked at the footages recorded in the Closed Circuit Television Cameras (CCTV) installed in the temple.
They noticed a well-dressed man entering the sanctum sanctorum and leaving the temple with the jewellery.
The police have collected the footage and a search has been launched for the accused. A case has been registered and further investigations are on.
