AIADMK general secretary Jayalalithaa’s attack on the BJP is an attempt to hoodwink the people, Communist Party of India (CPI) secretary D. Pandian has said on Tuesday.
Speaking to journalists here, he said the Chief Minister had just touched on only one issue — the Cauvery water dispute — when she had to target the BJP on many issues mentioned in its manifesto, including a common civil code and a plan to build a Ram temple at Ayodhya.
False propagandaAccusing the BJP of carrying out a false propaganda to garner more votes, Mr. Pandian said there was no ‘Modi wave’ in any part of the country. The voters were clever, and they couldn’t be deceived by such a calculated campaign. The Left parties reckoned that neither the Congress nor the BJP could gain majority in the Lok Sabha. The Left would again prove to be a force to reckon with after the elections.
Later, speaking at a meeting to seek votes for party candidate R. Viswanathan, he said both Puducherry Chief Minister N. Rangasamy and Union Minister V. Narayanasamy had let down the people of the Union Territory by indulging in a personality clash. Both failed to implement their election promises. Mr. Rangasamy couldn’t escape the ire of the voters by passing the buck to Mr. Narayanasamy, who had also done nothing much to the people as MP for over 20 years.
Referring to the financial crisis faced by Puducherry, Mr. Pandian said the government had to spend Rs. 500 crore on interest alone every year. The Central government should have waived Puducherry’s debt. And it had never attempted to improve the finances of the Union Territory.
Hence, the people should boycott the candidates of both the parties_ All India N.R. Congress and the Congress.
