Sleuths of the Directorate of Vigilance and Anti-Corruption on Wednesday arrested an Inspector of Police for allegedly accepting bribe.

According to police sources, Tamilmaran, inspector of Mangalampettai police station in Cuddalore district, had demanded ₹50,000 from Govindaraj, former president of Thiruvambur panchayat, for not registering a case against the latter’s nephews in an assault case reported recently.

Govindaraj lodged a complaint with the DVAC. The officials nabbed inspector Tamilmaran red-handed. According to reports, as news of Tamilmaran’s arrest spread, a large number of local people assembled and burst crackers.
