Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka Y.K. Sinha on Friday called on Chief Minister N. Rangasamy at his chamber in the Legislative Assembly. Officials described the meeting as a courtesy call. Speaking to reporters, Mr. Sinha said the Indian fishermen issue is a sensitive issue that must be handled carefully. It is being discussed between the Indian and Sri Lankan Governments and fishermen representatives. “It is a sensitive, humanitarian and livelihood issue and the Indian Government has been trying its best to work for the interest of Indian fishermen. We have been able to ensure that Indian fishermen who are detained in Sri Lanka are released as soon as possible,” he said.
