A history-sheeter, Siva alias Sivakumar alias Track Siva (30) of Muthialpet, was arrested here on Friday and explosive material used in the making of crude bombs seized from him.
Acting on a tip-off, SP (East) Venkatasamy was conducting vehicle checks at Viswanathan Nagar-Karuvaidikuppam Road junction, when he stopped the history-sheeter, who was on his bike.
A search of his vehicle showed 500 gm of explosive powder, iron nails, iron bails and pebbles, two cell phones and ₹11,000 cash.
When he was questioned, he reportedly confessed that he planned to make crude bombs to intimidate and extort money from the business community.
The accused is involved in a number of cases, including murder, attempt to murder and extortion, in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu. He was convicted in a dacoity case in 2015 and is out on bail.
