The elections department has introduced a helpline number — 1950 — for public to register complaints against poll related issues. In a release, V. Candavelou, Chief Electoral Officer said the toll free number will render specific services to the differently-abled people.
Differently-abled people can call on 1950 for any services regarding enrolment such as difficulties in obtaining/filling up and submission of forms. All such requests will be addressed immediately on a fast track basis. Public can also avail of the services of the helpline 1950 between 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
He said the department had also launched a Mobile Voters Registration vehicle “Ungalai Thedi” (in search of you). The vehicle accompanied by a performing art troupe will create awareness on importance of voting through street plays. Public can register and make corrections/deletions by collecting the required forms or by utilising the online services available in the vehicle.
The Department has laid special emphasis to enrol target groups of electors such as youth, differently-abled, transgenders and NRIs as part of the special Summary Revision of Electoral Rolls from September 15 to October 14, 2015, he said.
