Revenue Minister M.O.H.F. Shahjahan on Thursday informed the Assembly that the government would soon come out with guidelines to regulate the working of two-wheeler rental companies in the city.

Replying to a question tabled by AIADMK MLA Vaiyapuri Manikandan, Mr. Shahjahan said legislators could give suggestions to the government on whether there should be a total ban on renting out of two-wheelers or just guidelines to help tourists take out bikes on rent legally while helping the government earn revenue.

'Need for it'

Mr. Vaiyapuri Manikandan and other legislators made it clear that there should be regulation to ensure that the two-wheeler rentals functioned without any irregularity. The MLAs also said the government should earn revenue by way of levying taxes.

Mr. Shahjahan replied that the government would study the working of two-wheeler rentals in other States such as Goa and form the rules.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy said the government is keen on promoting tourism and the rules would be formed without delay.
