Minister of Labour, Employment and Pollution Control Board M. Kandasamy on Thursday told the members of Confederation of Indian Industries – Puducherry that the government would extend its support to establishing more industries.

Stating that Puducherry had been facing financial crunch, he said that Puducherry needed more investments from the industries. “We might not be able to resolve all the issues faced by the government. But, we will definitely look into the labour-related issues and others that can be resolved. We will extend complete support for the industries,” he said in his keynote address.

The representatives of CII stressed that industries need a special police control number for direct access in case of any untoward incident within the premises. This would enable prompt attention and help from the police.

They requested that police outposts and monitoring of frequent beat in industrial estates.

Industries’ wish list

Speakers at the meeting said the government should facilitate online submissions to pollution control board, profession tax and other departments where payments were still made off line. “There are delays in renewal of air and water consent from pollution control board. This needs to be speeded up and for online submission for renewal, we are asked to submit hard copies of the application for registration and only thereupon we can submit online payments. This defeats the purpose of online transactions. With the government not allotting any landfill, it has not been possible to dispose the sludge from the ETP,” they said.

Priyadarshini, Director, Industries and Commerce, Vallavan, Labour Commissioner; Sathyamurthy, Managing Director, PIPDIC; M. Nandakumar, Chairman, CII Puducherry State Council; M. Kalaiichelvan, vice-chairman, CII Puducherry State Council; and Samiuddin, Head, CII, were present.
