The government pool of MBBS seats in the seven self financing medical colleges here has been finalised at 265 seats for the academic year 2014-15.
The decision follows a high-level meeting convened by Chief Minister N. Rangasamy with management representatives of private medical colleges on Thursday.
Health Secretary Ragesh Chandra was also present at the meeting. Later, addressing presspersons, Mr. Rangasamy said the government would try and secure more seats as its rightful share from private medical colleges in the coming years. The government is eligible for 50 per cent of the 900 seats available in private institutions.
The number of seats this year is the same as that allotted in 2013-14. This year, about 7,000 students had completed process of registration with the Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) when receipt of applications closed on June 10. CENTAC is expected to publish the rank-list next week.
