17 procedures done free of cost: Jipmer Director
A team of cardiologists and medical experts on emergency care from France were in the city and trained over 150 doctors from the leading medical institutions.
T.S. Ravikumar, Director, Jipmer, told The Hindu, “This programme called Indo-French Radial Intervention course was started six years ago. Since then the programme was being conducted every year. On Friday they finished 17 procedures here free of cost. About 150 doctors all around the country came here to take part in the training imparted by French doctors and our junior doctors also got trained in the advanced technologies.”
They also shared their expertise on emergency care.
For the sixth year in a row, a team led by Patrick Henry from Lariboisière Hospital, University of Paris, guided doctors here on techniques in coronary angioplasty. Traditionally done through the thigh, the one-day workshop examined coronary angioplasty done through the hand.
“In the first year, we were trained on this technique. Now, we are perfecting it. Dr. Henry is sharing his expertise and helping us to improve,” said Anandaraja Subramanian, Consultant of Cardiology, Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and PGI, who was among the doctors who participated in the workshop. Doctors from Chennai, Bangalore and Cochin had also come to study the procedure on the invitation of Jipmer.
