Fishworkers forum gets assurance from Union Minister

The National Fish Workers Forum on Friday claimed to have got an assurance from the Union Agriculture Minister Radha Mohan Singh that the recommendations of the Meenakumari report will not be implemented and no Letter of Permit (LOP) will be issued to foreign fishing vessels for fishing in Indian waters.

M. Ilango, chairman, National Fish Workers Forum (NFF) said Mr. Singh had made the assurance when a delegation of NFF called on him in Delhi on Thursday.

Mr. Ilango said the Minister also assured the delegation that a committee would be constituted.

He added that it would consult all the stakeholders before arriving at any important decision.
