Lieutenant Governor Kiran Bedi on Sunday visited the organic farm of Sri Aurobindo Ashram at Poothurai village near here. As part of Ms. Bedi’s weekend morning round-up, she, along with Raj Nivas staff visited the farm and learnt about the organic farming practices.

“The Ashram had made best use of the resource nature had given. Every part of the farm was organic. Recycling is practised to ensure fertility of soil. The farm is a truly integrated living of human beings and nature with mutual respect for each other,” she said.

Community involvement

Ms. Bedi pointed out that former students of Ashram school and the present students take part in the farming. The farm is an ideal learning place not only for students of Ashram school but for the student community and institutions such as universities.

The farmers of Puducherry too can learn these best practices. The Ashram farm house is a perfect place to learn by being amidst nature, which in itself is an education, she said. Ms. Bedi suggested that the Secretary to Government (Agriculture) should visit the farm to have practical knowledge of organic farming.
