Mettupalayam police have arrested a former police inspector and a woman accomplice on charges of instigating a minor to lodge a false sexual harassment complaint under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act against a government school watchman and a teacher.

According to police, Rajaram (65), a retired inspector, who faces several cases of extortion in other police stations, had teamed up with Velvizhi (40), the aunt of the minor, to pressure the girl into filing a false complaint of sexual harassment against the school watchman. In her complaint, the girl alleged that when she reported the harassment to the teacher, she had been advised to hush up the incident.

Girl exploited

A police official said the accused had exploited the minor to abuse the POCSO Act to extort money from the watchman and the teacher in return for settlement of the case.

The accused were produced before a special judge and remanded to custody, police said.
