Students and staff of colleges under Sri Manakula Vinayagar Group of Institutions took out a rally seeking a “fair inquiry” into the recent suicide of a girl student.

The rally started at Indira Gandhi Statue. A group of senior officials from the institution met Lieutenant Governor Virendra Kataria with a plea that the case against the college’s staff members be dropped and a fair inquiry conducted. They also sought the arrest of organisations that are inciting students to unfairly protest against the institution, Principal of Sri Manakula Vinayagar Engineering College V.S.K Venkadajalapathy said.

The college heads are also seeking a commission to inquire into the case. “Mr. Kataria agreed to our request for a commission,” he said.

In the meanwhile, a relay fast undertaken by members of various organisations, including SFI and DYFI, continued throughout the day.

On Monday, Vinothini, a first year student at Manakula Vinayagar Institute of Technology jumped off the third floor of the college building and committed suicide.
