The Puducherry Electricity Department on Thursday announced that it would resort to cyclic load shedding in the wake of increase in power demand in the Puducherry urban and semi-urban areas and the power transformers at the Marapalam substation loaded to its maximum capacity.

According to a release, though adequate quantity of power allocation is available, the power demand exceeded the rated capacity of the power transformers. Hence, it is necessary to restrict the load of the transformers.

Depending on necessity the Electricity Department has proposed to impose load shedding from 9.50 p.m. to 11.20 p.m. daily from May 29 to June 7 in the urban and semi-urban areas of Puducherry. This measure is purely a temporary arrangement. The load shedding schedule for Friday is as follows:

9.50 p.m. to 10.20 p.m.: Murungapakkampet, Ananda Nagar, Velrampet, Kombakkam, Thengaithittu, Nehru Nagar, Vasanth Nagar, Sapthagiri Nagar, Athiparashakthi Nagar.

10.20 p.m. to 10.50 p.m.: East Coast Road between Marapalam junction and Rajiv Gandhi statue and its adjoining areas, Ellaipillaichavady, Maraimalai Adigal Salai (part), Mariamman Nagar, Jhansi Nagar, Natesan Nagar, Anna Nagar, T.V. Salai, Saram, Kosapalayam, Kamaraj Salai (between Thanthai Periyar statue and Rajiv Gandhi statue).

10.50 p.m. to 11.20 p.m.: Nainarmandapam, Murungapakkam and Murungapakkampet, Velrampet, Divan Candappa Nagar, Sudhana Nagar, Thulukkanathamman Nagar, Ottampalayam, Pappanchavady, Kombakkam, Ariyankuppam, Nonankuppam, Veerampattinam, Kakkayanthope and Radhakrishnan Nagar.
