Election Commission to decide on second counting centre in Puducherry

Request sent for approving women’s polytechnic college

The elections department has proposed to set up one more counting centre at the Government Polytechnic College for Women in addition to the existing centre to ensure smooth and prompt counting of votes, District Election Officer and Collector P. Jawahar said on Tuesday.

The decision to set up two counting centres was taken on the directions of the Chief Election Officer, V Candavelou. Normally votes would be counted at the Bharathidasan Government College for Women.

Mr. Jawahar said that counting of votes for the Assembly constituencies of Kamaraj Nagar, Muthialpet, Raj Bhavan, Ouppalam, Orleanpet, Mudaliarpet, Nellithope, Ariyankuppam, Manavely, Embalam, Nettapakkam and Bahour would be done at the Bharathidasan Government College for Women while counting of votes of Mannadipet, Thirubhuvanai, Oussudu, Mangalam, Villianur, Oulgaret, Kadirkamam, Indira Nagar, Thattanchavady, Lawspet and Kalapet would be conducted at the Government Polytechnic for Women.

A formal request has been sent to the Election Commission of India seeking approval for setting up an additional counting centre. The counting centre will be established as per the guidelines of the ECI. S. Thammu Ganapathy, Nodal Officer (counting) and other officials participated.

Meanwhile, the Elections department on Tuesday organised a voter’s awareness campaign at the Krishnasamy College of Education at Manapet near here.
