Of the total 41 nominated candidates in the Union Territory, the applications of eight have been rejected.

Amongst the rejected candidates are the three “dummy” candidates from AIADMK, AINRC and PMK.

Scrutinised

The applications were thoroughly scrutinised by the District Election Officer along with his staff and the General Observer Saurabh Bhagat in the presence of all the candidates.

According to the District Election Officer S.B. Deepak Kumar, while the three party candidates were rejected because the original candidates who applied qualified, the five independent candidates were rejected for a number of different reasons.

Some of them did not possess the required documents and a couple of columns had been left blank for a few of them.

For a couple of others, they did not have the required 10 proposers.

Vehicle seized

In the meanwhile, the Election Department has also seized a vehicle that was being used by the All India NR Congress for their election campaign.

According to Mr. Deepak Kumar, the vehicle was caught without a permit.

Preparations are also underway to ensure that the strong room is ready before April 24, he said.
