Minister for Education R. Kamalakannan on Thursday announced that this academic year with a target of 1,110 seats, so far they have got the approval for 794 seats.
“The government is continuing its efforts to get the approval from the Pondicherry University for the remaining seats,” he said.
Replying to the questions raised during the Assembly session, the Minister for Education underlined that efforts were on to start the three postgraduate courses, including M. Sc Chemistry, Mathematics, and Computer Science in Aringar Anna Government Arts and Science College, Karaikal, in 2017-18.
Mr. Kamalakannan said that a committee under the chairmanship of Muthuchezhian, former Vice-Chancellor, Periyar University, Salem, has been constituted to conduct academic and administrative audit of all colleges. The committee would also recommend the measures for improvement of the quality of education, he said.
Training
The government has proposed to train teachers handling mathematics and science subjects in IIT-Kanpur, using the facilities available in Anveshika labs.
“School leadership training will be given to the head teachers by resource persons from the National University of Educational Planning and Administration (NUEPA), New Delhi. In addition to this, State Council for Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Tamil Nadu, has developed e-content for the students. The copies of the e-content would be supplied to all the schools for better training,” the Minister for Education said.
