: Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Puducherry unit has demanded that the government regularise 319 Home Guards as permanent employees and to extend all benefits to them on par with other employees.

DMK unit convener M.A.S.Subramanian said, “The present government has been ignoring the Home Guards who are in the lower-rung of police force. There is no job protection to the Home Guards and they are being paid Rs.350 per day while daily wagers in other departments take home Rs.404. The government should amend the rules so that Home Guards get Rs.500 per day besides implementing annual regular increment to them.”

He said that now 319 persons in the Home Guards had completed seven years of service. Hence they should be made permanent government staff on the basis of Chief Minister N.Rangasamy’s announcement in the Assembly that those who completed three years in any government department would be made permanent.
