The Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam (BPK) Staff Welfare Association has alleged that the member-secretary appointed to the governing body of Bharathiar Palkalai Koodam has proposed bifurcation of the institution which is “illegal” and “does not bear any justifiable intention and motive.”
In a press statement, the sssociation members also appealed to the government to appoint a principal, as the position has been vacant for several years. “Instead of appointing a principal or principal in-charge on merit-cum-seniority basis as per the rules, the administration seems to have left it to the wisdom of a Puducherry Civil Services (PCS) officer who has been appointed to the post of member-secretary to the governing body of BPK,” they alleged.
The association added that the jurisdiction of the member-secretary (a PCS officer) appointed to the governing body is restricted to the functioning as a liaison officer between the governing body and the government. “He has no role to play in the day-to-day functioning of the college. On the contrary, the member-secretary is acting as a full time principal without any authority,” they said.
No permanent affiliation
The staff added that due to this the Pondicherry University has not granted a permanent affiliation to the college. “Besides, the institution has not been evaluated by any accreditation council like NAAC for an appropriate grade in the academic performance and it has no permission to offer post graduate courses and research degrees. It has been offering only undergraduate courses since 1992,” association president L. Selvam Flaubert said.
They appealed to the government to appoint a principal at the earliest.
The Director of Art and Culture Department S. Ganessin and member-secretary were not available for comments.
