Differences in PWF over bringing AINRC into fold

April 06, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:42 am IST - PUDUCHERRY:

The seat-sharing talks between the constituents of the People’s Welfare Front (PWF) and the Desiya Murpokku Dravida Kazhagam (DMDK) could not make much headway even after several rounds of negotiations with the Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi (VCK) and the DMDK seeking to rope in the AINRC in the alliance.

A leader of the PWF said that the VCK which is part of the alliance and the DMDK are keen to include the AINRC in the alliance .

However, the Left parties are not too happy about accommodating the AINRC in the alliance as the party had allied with the BJP during the 2014 Lok Sabha elections.

The Left parties have communicated the stand of the VCK and DMDK to our counterparts in Tamil Nadu.

A decision on this would be taken and a formal announcement would be made after the seat sharing exercise concludes in Tamil Nadu, he said.

Apart from differences over the decision to rope in the AINRC in the alliance there is discontent over seat allocation.

The VCK has sought 15 seats from the alliance claiming that it has a strong vote base in all constituencies except Kamaraj Nagar and Thattanchavadi. The RSP, led by its secretary K. Lenin, sought one seat from the alliance.

The MDMK which had earlier demanded 10 seats now wants at least five to seven seats from the alliance. CPI (M) unit leaders said the party was demanding five seats but was ready to accept one seat less than that figure in the interest of the coalition.

“There has been some delay in seat sharing and the number of seats to be contested by each party. However, all issues will be settled amicably in the next few days,” a PWF leader said.
