Director General of Police Sunil Kumar Gautam has held a review meeting with police officials and other top officials on ‘Operation Muskaan- II’, an initiative which was launched to trace out missing children, rescue, rehabilitate and reunite them with their parents.
The Union Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had advised all States/Union Territories to take up a month-long campaign titled ‘Operation Smile’ in the month of January last year to rescue/rehabilitate the missing children. Similarly, a dedicated campaign titled ‘Operation Muskaan’ was launched in the month of July last year throughout the country.
As directed by the MHA, the ‘Operation Muskaan-II’ is being conducted in the UT of Puducherry during July 2016 to trace out the missing children. A detailed circular was already issued by the Director General of Police, Puducherry to all the field police officers.
On Wednesday, DGP Sunil Kumar Gautam chaired the meeting with the heads of stakeholder departments and field police officers. Inspector General of Police Kannan Jagadeesan, Senior Superintendents of Police Rajiv Ranjan, A.K. Ghawas, Labour Commissioner E. Vallavan, Director of Medical Services K.V. Raman, Assistant Director of Social Welfare Department Shanthi, Child Welfare Committee chairperson Vidyaa Ramkumar, municipal commissioners, directors of prominent child care homes and NGOs attended the meeting.
The activities of the previous operations were discussed in detail. All the participants were briefed about the activities to be undertaken by their respective departments.
