A variety of cultural shows put up by school students capped the events on the concluding day of the three-day Public Information Campaign (PIC) at Puducherry focusing on the Central government’s priority schemes.
Students from seven government schools gave performances based on the themes such as Clean India and national integration. A dance performance by eight Class I students from Savarirayalou Naickar Government Primary School, Puducherry, drew the loudest applause.
Meanwhile, at the special free medical camp organised in connection with the PIC, about 400 persons were screened by government doctors, especially for diabetes and hypertension.
Some patients were referred for further treatment to the Government General Hospital, Puducherry.
At the Reserve Bank of India stall, over 1,800 persons exchanged soiled and mutilated currency notes for new notes. Many among them exchanged currency notes for coins. The total value of the exchange done during three days was about Rs. 50 lakh.
The stall put up by the Unique Identification Authority of India also attracted crowds, with people coming for registration of new cards and for correction and updating their Aadhaar cards.
A national integration pledge was also taken by the campaign volunteers, participants and visitors.
The awareness initiative that focused on the benefits of schemes such as the Prime Ministers Jan Dhan Yojna, Clean India and Women’s Welfare was also mounted by the Directorate of Field Publicity in six villages around Puducherry in which rural women showed keen interest and enthusiasm.
At the valedictory session, prizes and certificates were given away to winners of various competitions. Among 60 stalls which participated in the campaign showcasing their respective missions. The stall put up by Puducherry Agricultural Department was adjudged the best stall and bagged the first prize.
