Cuddalore has over 19 lakh voters

As per the revised electoral rolls released by Collector S. Suresh Kumar here on Monday, Cuddalore district has a total number of 19,28,644 voters. Of them 9,68,517 are men, 9,60,081 women and 46 others.

The final tally has been arrived at after carrying out additions, deletions and corrections in the draft electoral rolls that were released on October 15, 2014. Prior to the modifications in the rolls there were 18,81,976 voters in the district, including 9,45,934 men, 9,35,999 women and 43 others.

After releasing the revised electoral rolls with voters’ photographs, the Collector said that the revision was carried out on the direction of the Election Commission and the Chief Electoral Officer from October 15 to November 10, 2014.

During the period 55,652 people sought their names to be included in the rolls. Of those applications 50,677 were accepted and 4,975 rejected.

For deletion of names from the rolls 654 forms were received and of them 493 were accepted and 161 rejected. For carrying out corrections in names and date of birth 12,255 forms (Form 8) were received and of them 11,413 were accepted and 842 rejected.

For change of residential address within the same constituency 3,948 forms (Form 8A) were received and of them 2,949 were accepted and 1,019 rejected. The Collector further said that during field verification the officials found 2,152 voters had died, 969 shifted their residence elsewhere and 888 double entries.

Accordingly, the number of voters in the nine Assembly constituencies in the district as of now is as follows: Thittakudi — total — 1,99,096, men — 99,347 and women, 99,479; Vriddhachalam — total — 2,24,611, men — 1,14,156, women — 1,10,451 and others — 4; Neyveli — total — 1,92,742, men — 97,932, women — 94,802 and others — 8; Panruti — total — 2,18,887, men — 1,08,547, women — 1,10,332 and others — 8. Cuddalore — total — 2,21,553, men — 1,08,419, women — 1,13,114 and others — 20; Bhuvanagiri — total — 2,31,816, men — 1,17,219 and women — 1,14,597; Chidambaram — total — 2,21,964, men — 1,10,628, women — 1,11,334 and others — 2; and, Kattumannarkoil — total — 2,03,834, men — 1,04,451 and women — 99,380 and others — 3.

As of now the Bhuvanagiri constituency has the highest number of 2,31,816 voters and Neyveli the lowest number of 1,92,742 voters.

The Collector further said that the Electors’ Photo Identity Cards to the newly enrolled citizens would be given away on January 25.
