The Puducherry unit of Communist Party of India (CPI) on Thursday decided to contest in Puducherry constituency.

The unanimous decision was taken at the State council meet held here under the presidentship of V. Kaliamurthy.

Resolution passed

A resolution said that the current political situation had given a good opportunity to field its own candidate for the Puducherry Lok Sabha seat after a gap of about 50 years.

It would field its candidate with the support of Communist Party of India (Marxist), Revolutionary Socialist Party (RSP), Forward Bloc, Communist Party of India (ML) and like-minded parties.

R. Viswanathan, secretary of the Puducherry unit of the CPI, said that the State council decision would be sent to the party high command and the Puducherry unit would abide by its final decision.
