The Puducherry unit of the Communist Party of India- Marxist CPI (M) on Friday staged a demonstration in front of the head post office here to register its protest against the Government’s apathy towards problems in the education sector. The agitators led by secretary R. Rajangam demanded the Government to take steps to ensure that private medical colleges allocated 50 per cent of seats for government quota besides streamlining fee structure. A legislation should be enacted on the lines of Kerala to streamline admission to professional colleges, they said. They wanted the Government to enact a legislation to prevent private schools from charging excess fees. It should ensure implementation of 25 per cent reservation for students of Puducherry in Pondicherry University.

The agitators raised slogans and said the government was unduly favouring private education institutions while failing to strengthen the government-run institutions.
