Construction workers affiliated to the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) on Monday staged a demonstration in front of the head post office here in support of their charter of demands.

The protesters, led by K. Kaliyan, general secretary of the Construction Workers Federation of India (CWFI), demanded an increase in bonus coupon to ₹3,000 and other benefits.

They wanted the government to permit lifting of sand through bullock carts. The protesters demanded a revamp of the Construction Workers Welfare Board in Puducherry and speedy disposal of applications submitted by construction workers seeking enrolment.
