The body of R. Deivakumar (29), a constable in the Tamil Nadu Armed Reserve Police Force, who died under mysterious circumstances on Tuesday, would not be accepted unless the police book a murder case in this regard, said Thol.Thirumavalavan, Viduthalai Chiruthaigal Katchi leader.
After interacting with the grieving family members of the deceased policeman and the agitating party cadre, on the Chidambaram government hospital premises, where the post-mortem was done, Mr. Thirumavalavan told reporters that evidence pointed towards murder.
There was a deep wound on the head of Deivakumar, one of his ears was slashed with a sharp-edged weapon and the hands were tied behind with a lungi. It was a cause for concern that the police were hesitating to book it as a murder case, he said.
Deivakumar, a resident of Chenninatham near Kattumannarkoil, was found dead at Govindanallur on the Chennai—Kumbakonam highway with a severe head injury. The police have booked a case under Section 174 (suspicious death) of the Criminal Procedure Code.
Ever since the body was taken to the Chidambaram government hospital for post-mortem the family members, relatives and the VCK supporters have been staging agitation on the hospital premises, urging the police to convert the case from that of “suspicious death to murder.”
