The Congress has accused the police of acting in a partisan manner against party workers on the directions of the ruling AINRC by foisting false cases against them.

Speaking to reporters at the Pradesh Congress Committee office here on Monday, AICC general secretary and former Union Minister for State V. Narayanasamy said the police had foisted cases on nearly 50 Congress workers although they had staged demonstration in a peaceful manner.

Mr. Narayanasamy said that those who were not involved in the agitation were arrested by the police. The police had arrested the Congress workers at midnight as it they had committed any heinous crimes. The police were yet to arrest the culprits behind the murder of a pawnbroker and three police personnel accused in the child sex racket. However, they were showing unusual haste in arresting the Congress workers. He accused the police of targeting the Congress.

The party would stage an agitation in front of the office of the Inspector General of Police shortly, protesting against the police for foisting false cases on its cadre.
