Congress demands installation of Shanmugam's statue

Puducherry Pradesh Congress Committee(PPCC) on Wednesday demanded the installation of a life-bronze statue of former Chief Minister P.Shanmugam in the city.

In a letter to Chief Minister N.Rangasamy on Wednesday, President of PPCC A.V. Subramanian recalled the 89{+t}{+h}birth of day of the late leader fell on Wednesday. Mr. Shanmugam served the people for fifty years. He was Chief Minister of Puducherry twice and held the post of PPCC President for twenty two years besides being a three-time Member of Parliament, a Minister and Leader of Opposition.

Mr. Subramanian said a status in his honour was a popular aspiration and deserved to be met. Hence the government should identify a place and install the statue this year soon.
