Condemning the assault on Dalits in Gujarat over alleged cow slaughter, students of Tagore Arts College in Puducherry boycotted their classes on Thursday.

On July 11, seven members of Dalit community were brutally assaulted by ‘gau rakshaks’ (cow protectors) for allegedly skinning a dead cow in Una town in Gujarat. The video of four men chained to a car and beaten with iron rods has since gone viral triggering outrage and protests across the country against the Hindutva cow vigilante groups in Gujarat.

The students of Tagore Arts College in Puducherry raised slogans against the Gujarat and Union governments over inaction. They demanded the government to take immediate action against the accused. The protesters threatened that if there was any further delay, they would organise students from all colleges in Puducherry and continue their protests.
