District Collector Satyendra Singh Dursawat on Wednesday reviewed the status of acquittal cases in trial courts.

He met officials from the Department of Prosecution in this regard.

Mr. Dursawat pointed out that the District Magistrate was the competent authority to prefer an appeal on order of acquittal under Section 378 of Criminal Procedure Code.

Fortnightly meetings

The administration will hold meetings every fortnight and discuss the cases where acquittal has been given.

“We will scrutinise the whole process and ensure that citizens are not deprived of their right to justice.”

Website soon

Mr. Dursawat said the administration will soon launch a website for the office of the District Magistrate with a separate section on law and order and grievance redressal system. Issues that can disturb the social harmony of the society at large will be addressed.

The administration will also be constituting police station level committees comprising Sub-Divisional Magistrate, Station House Officer and MLA concerned to address issues relating to law and order. A town hall would be held every month, he added.
