‘Clean Karaikal, Green Karaikal’ launched

August 21, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 10:05 am IST - KARAIKAL:

A large number of school students and volunteers participated in the ‘Clean Karaikal – Green Karaikal’ programme introduced at Tirunallar near here on Saturday.

They cleaned the streets, drainage channels and collected waste plastics and empty bottles at various places and disposed the garbage in co-ordination with the sanitary workers.

The programme will be a weekly schedule and volunteers of service organisations and sanitary workers will participate in it, according to R. Kamalakannan, Puducherry Minister of Education, who inaugurated the programme.

He said that the programme was a follow-up to the Lt. Governor Kiran Bedi’s appeal to the officials and residents of Karaikal to keep the town clean and tidy, during her recent camp in the town.
