Bharatiya Janata Party leader H. Raja on Monday alleged that the Church was fomenting religious discord in the southern districts of Tamil Nadu by exploiting the tragedy caused by Cyclone Ockhi.

Addressing the media here, Mr. Raja alleged that parish priests in Kanniyakumari were in the forefront of an agitation by a section of people raising slogans against Prime Minister Narendra Modi. “They were carrying placards suggesting tributes to the Prime Minister. Its highly condemnable and they are trying to create discord,” he said.

The Centre had given all assistance to cyclone relief measures. The Navy and the Indian Coast Guard were active in rescue operations and the Defence Minister visited cyclone-affected areas, he added.
