The 13th State Level Painting Competition for School Children under the national campaign on energy conservation organised by the Ministry of Power and the Bureau of Energy Efficiency was held recently.

The contest on the theme of energy conservation for school children was held in two categories — students of classes IV, V and VI (Category A) and classes VII, VIII and IX (Category B).

The function was co-hosted by Renewable Energy Agency, Puducherry(REAP) and Directorate of school education, Puducherry and the Rural Electrification Corporation Ltd., Chennai.

A total of 34,519 students from 555 schools participated in the school level contest. Out of the 1,100 paintings received from the schools in the Union Territory of Puducherry, 50 best paintings each from ‘A’ and ‘B’ category were selected for participation at the State level.

Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy distributed prizes to the winners in the presence of Education Minister R. Kamalakannan.

The cash prizes ranging from ₹10,000 to ₹20,000 in both categories and 10 consolation prizes worth ₹5,000 each were distributed to the winners.

Among the dignitaries who participated were V. Manikandan, MLA, Muthialpet, S. Sundaravadivelu, Education Secretary, R. Smitha, Managing Director, REAP, D. Ravi, Superintending Engineer, Electricity Department, R. Murali, Superintending Engineer, Electricity Department and S. Jayanthi, Chief Programme Manager, Rural Electrification Corporation Limited (RECL) and other officials of RECL and REAP.

According to REAP, the top three prize winners of Category ‘A’ will be participating in the national-level painting competition scheduled to be held on December 12 in New Delhi while the paintings of the top three prize winners in Category ‘B’ will be sent to Bureau of Energy Efficiency (BEE) for selection of national level prizes.
