Valedictory of State-level science exhibition held; prize winners to attend Telangana fair

Chief Minister V.Narayanasamy on Monday said that the country’s scientists were second to none in the world.

Addressing the valedictory function of the Regional and State Level Science Exhibition-2017, Mr. Narayanasamy said, “Science had been a vital part in the country. India has always given more importance to scientific research. In NASA, at least 30 per cent scientists are Indians. Several researchers in the medical field in America and European countries are Indians. Both the government and private agencies together are engaged in scientific research. Many Indians are engaged in scientific researches in several countries and the reason for this is the scientific temperament developed in our young scientists,” he added.

The Chief Minister said that India was fourth in the space science research. “Our research is on par with the developed countries. With consistent encouragement, our scientists have surpassed their challenges to develop PSLV and GSLV,” he said.

‘Need more scientists’

Mr. Narayanasamy further said, “We need more scientists from Puducherry. For this to happen, the basic education in Puducherry encourages students to explore this field and infuse more interest and involvement of students in the field of science. This science exhibition is a step towards achieving this,” the Chief Minister said adding that the students who had won prizes would be sent to the southern states science exhibition to be held in Telangana.

Deputy Speaker V.P.Sivakolundu called urged the schools to encourage students to excel in science. “The science exhibitions are held to bring out the talents in the schoolchildren,” he added.

Education Secretary S.Sundaravadivelu and Education Director L.Kumar were present.

The chief guests distributed prizes for the winners.

At the state level, Dharan.V (Class V), of the Government Primary School, Kirumampakkam, who had developed an evaporation absorber and controlling method, bagged the first place at the primary section. Aslamkhan.

A (Class VIII) of Gurukulam Montessori House of Children and Higher Secondary Gurunagar School won the first place at the middle school level for inventing a climbing robot. Aswathi Santhosh (Class X) of Excel Public School, Chalakkara, won the first place among high school level for developing an ‘intelligent sensor based bathroom controlled system’ and Pradap.K (Class XII) bagged the first prize for his work, ‘creativity using electronic components cum five awesome life hacks.’
