Chief Minister V. Narayanasamy on Thursday said his government has been making consistent efforts to revive air-services from Puducherry airport and pointed out that he has met Union Civil Aviation Minister Ashok Gajapati Raju recently in this regard.

He was addressing reporters after distributing regularisation orders to vocational instructors in Government Higher Secondary Schools at his chamber.

On Saturday, the Union Government is going to implement the new aviation regional connectivity scheme with a fare of Rs. 2,500 for hour-long flights operating from regional airports.

Health and Tourism Minster Malladi Krishna Rao and Chief Secretary Manoj Parida would participate in the programme.

Important announcement

Mr. Narayanasamy said an important decision regarding Puducherry’s air connectivity is expected to be announced on the occasion.

“We are planning to introduce air-services from Puducherry to Chennai, Tirupati, Kochi, Bengaluru and Coimbatore,” the Chief Minister said.

AYUSH speculation

Setting to rest the speculation that the proposed AYUSH hospital would be moved out of the city, the Chief Minister stated that the government would establish the institution only in Puducherry. Mr. Narayanasamy alleged that some vested interests have been indulging in a misinformation campaign that the hospital would be established elsewhere.

The government, which has for a while been planning to establish hospital for AYUSH (Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homoeopathy), would set up the institution in Puducherry and the site would be finalised by the Cabinet, he stated.
