The Chennai city police have arrested two persons involved in the kidnap and murder of a driver in Vellore district on Friday.

Wasim Akram, a native of Ambur, worked as a driver in a leather manufacturing company in Maduravoyal. He was transporting manufactured leather goods to Ranipet on August 13 in a multi-utility vehicle. When the goods did not reach their destination, the company lodged a complaint at the Maduravoyal police station on August 14.

On August 16, Akram’s parents filed a ‘missing’ complaint. The same day, the Arcot Town police found a partly-burnt body in Vellore.

Following investigation, the police laid a trap and arrested Rajesh of Thiruverkadu and Ashok Kumar of Aminjikarai, and three others. They were also involved in a vehicle theft attempt in Sathuvachari, Vellore, on August 20.

The stolen vehicle and leather goods were recovered. The police also arrested Viji, who purchased the stolen goods.
