The government has issued an order reconstituting Centralised Admission Committee (CENTAC) for conducting admission to various professional courses under government quota for the academic year 2015-16.
This follows the Lieutenant Governor, A.K. Singh, recently granting approval for the reconstitution of Centralised Admission Committee.
Chief Minister N.Rangasamy has emphasised that the committee should exercise utmost caution before granting admission. Mr. Singh has reiterated that the committee should be accountable and responsible for the correctness of admissions.
The Department of Higher and Technical Education issued an order on Tuesday spelling out the composition of the committee. As per the new composition, the Education Secretary will be the chairman of CENTAC and Principal of Pondicherry Engineering College, the convener.
There are various courses such as engineering, including lateral entry scheme, medical, Ayurveda, dental, veterinary and animal science, pharmacy, nursing and physiotherapy offered by the colleges under the purview of the government of Puducherry and the societies fully funded by it.
“Seats are also available under the government quota to the extent of not more than 50 per cent of the sanctioned intake in the self-financing within the Union Territory. Besides, admission are also carried out by the CENTAC in respect of the Centre’s nomination seats sponsored by the Union Ministry of Human Resources Development to the above mentioned courses in the government institutions all over India,” the order said.
In the new composition of the CENTAC, there are 10 members, including the Health Secretary, the Director of Health and Family Welfare Services, and the Director of Higher and Technical Education. Deans and principals are in the list.
In order to co-ordinate and regulate various activities connected with admissions, D.Govindarajulu, Principal of Pondicherry Eningeering College, will be the convener of CENTAC 2015-16.
M. Jonathan Daniel, professor and Head of the Department of Oral Medicine and Radiology, Mahatma Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Dental Sciences, Puducherry, will be the co-ordinator (admission) in charge of counselling and admission process in the engineering courses and biology based courses. The same committee will also handle the lateral entry of students to engineering courses.
The order also said the assistance through the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme would be revised and notified separately taking into consideration the requirement of assistance to various courses other than medical and engineering, reducing allocation to engineering courses as stipulated by a Government Order dated October 1, 2013.
The eligibility criteria and procedures for the admission to first year in various professional courses offered by the institutions will be notified separately.
Assistance through the Perunthalaivar Kamarajar Financial Assistance Scheme will be revised and notified separately
