The police have booked a case against a teacher of a Government Higher Secondary School for marrying a 16-year-old girl who had completed Plus-Two in the same school.

According to sources, the teacher, Panneerselvam, 31, was already married to Karthika, 25, of Marungur in 2015. The couple did not have children and were said to be living separately. Pannerselvam’s parents had got him married to the minor girl last month.

A case has been registered against Panneerselvam under provisions of the POCSO Act and Sections 9 and 10 of the Prohibition of Child Marriage Act. Further investigations are on.
