A 50-bedded integrated AYUSH (Department of Ayurveda, Yoga and Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy) Hospital at Gorimedu and introduction of Cardiac surgery at the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute are among the announcements for the health sector. The allocated healthcare budget for this year is about Rs.330 crore, an increase of Rs.103 crore over the previous year. The Government will be entering into a Memorandum of Understanding with a private partner for introducing cardiac surgery at Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute.
Mr. Rangasamy said the government had initiated efforts for constructing a multi-speciality hospital at Karaikal. The government has approached the Union Government to start a medical college in Karaikal with the help of Jipmer. As many as17 new ambulances will be inducted for the primary health centres and hospitals , he said.
A geriatric ward (non-communicable disease clinic) will be set up, at a cost of Rs.1.80 crore, in the Indira Gandhi Government General Hospital and Postgraduate Institute. Separation wards in the Community Health Centres will be created to enable elderly avail timely medical treatment.
In an effort aimed at providing affordable treatment to the terminally ill and bed ridden patients, the Government has decided to introduce “Palliative Care” in the Public health programme.
The programme will adopt a multi-disciplinary approach to address physical, emotional, spiritual and social concerns that arise with advanced illness.
Two new urban health centres will be set up in Puducherry. Health centres in the regions of Karaikal, Mahe and Yanam will be upgraded into primary health centres.
