BSNL exchanges all set to be upgraded for NGN

Installation charges waived for new landline and broadband connections up to May 18

The Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited, Puducherry Circle, will upgrade its exchanges to provide customers the Next Generation Network (NGN).

In a press conference, R. Marshal Antony Leo, Principal General Manager, Puducherry, said that nearly 11 exchanges in Puducherry Secondary Switching Area (SSA) will be upgraded to NGN technology in the first phase.

The service would be launched shortly at Auroville, Bahur, Kalapet, Kirumambakkam, Natesan Nagar, Olandaikeerapalayam, Puducherry Main, Puducherry (Badar Sahib Street), Thirubhuvanai, Muthialpet and Moolakulam, he said.

Mr. Leo added that in NGN mode customers can enjoy All India IP CENTREX, maximum of 60 party audio or video conferencing service and services like Limited Fixed Mobile Telephony (LFMT) and Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC).

He added that installation charge has been waived for new landline and broadband connections up to May 18.

In landline, ₹49 plan and in landline with broadband, ₹249 plan have been extended up to June 30. For BSNL landline connections, unlimited free calling during night hours (9 p.m. to 7 a.m.) and on all Sundays to mobile and landline of any network within India is allowed.

Customer service centre

For faster and better services to customers under one roof, BSNL would upgrade the Customer Service Centre in Puducherry. In addition to this, wifi hotspots would be installed in Le Café, Beach Road, Chunnambar, Chief Secretariat, Bharathi Park, Telephone Exchange Building, Rangapillai Street, Thiruvandarkoil, Pillaiyarkuppam, Poornankuppam, Sultanpet and Madagadipet.

Profit

Mr. Leo informed that BSNL, Puducherry SSA, has earned ₹85 crore revenue in 2016-17 with a profit of ₹13 crore. “More than 50,000 landline connections are working as of now. During the year 2016-17, 7370 landline connections and 7,497 broadband connections were provided in Puducherry, 227 High Speed Broadband connections by using optical fibre through Fibre to the Home (FTTH) technology. BSNL Puducherry is planning to achieve 12,000 landline, 15,000 broadband and 428 FTTH connections during 2017-18,” he added.

BSNL Puducherry has achieved more than 60,000 new mobile connections last year. The customers who have changed from other service providers to BSNL mobile number portability was 4,785 while those moved out were 2,812.
