A handbook for doctors: Jipmer director S.C. Parija launches book on histological techniques by Yogesh Ashok Somtakke, Assistant Professor of Anatomy.

A book on histological techniques to analyse microscopic structure of tissues was launched here on Wednesday as part of a Jipmer initiative to encourage medical professionals to write academic books.

Jipmer Director S.C. Parija released the book Principles of Histological Techniques authored by Yogesh Ashok Somtakke, Assistant Professor of Anatomy, Jipmer. The book has been published by Paras Publishers.

This book contains four sections routine histological techniques, special staining methods, immuno-histochemistry, and microscopy.

According to Jipmer, the book will be helpful to pathologists, anatomists and medical laboratory technicians.

Specific topics such as museum techniques, autoradiography, and diagnostic cytology are covered.

The immunohistochemistry section gives an idea about the basic principles and helps in the standardisation of protocols.

The initiative, which is a brainchild of the Jipmer chief, was kick-started at a book writing workshop a few months ago.

A series of books by the Jipmer faculty have been published.

A Jipmer note said the books written by experts across a spectrum of specialities would be a great contribution to medical fraternity and the young doctors.
