V. Saminathan, K.G. Shankar and S. Selvaganabathy of the BJP who were nominated as MLAs by the Centre on Wednesday met Chief Secretary Ashwani Kumar and sought his intervention in facilitating their rights as MLAs.
They sought the intervention of the Chief Secretary after Speaker V. Vaithilingam issued an order making their appointment “void” citing legal and procedural details.
In their memorandum to the Chief Secretary, the BJP leaders said as per sub-section (3) of section 3 of the Government of Union Territories Act 1963, the Centre could nominate three MLAs.
Mr. Saminathan told presspersons that the Speaker had been acting as a Congress functionary. He said Mr. Kumar assured them that their plea would be forwarded to the Centre.
