Union Minister of State for Environment, Forests and Climate Change Prakash Javadekar on Saturday charged that both the Dravidian parties, Congress and the present AINRC had failed the people of Puducherry even after being given several opportunities to rule.
Talking to reporters here, Mr. Javadekar alleged that the Congress, AIADMK, DMK and AINRC were interested only in “filling their pockets rather than the State coffers”.
The parties were competing with each other to promote corruption and bad governance instead of concentrating on people’s welfare and tackling the problem of unemployment faced by youth in the Union Territory.
He claimed that the voters in Puducherry wanted a change and the BJP was keen on providing a clean administration in Puducherry. The local textile mills were taken over by the government several years ago with a promise that it would be revamped. However, nothing was done by successive governments over the years and the mills were now on their death bed.
The tragedy of Puducherry is that though the UT had good potential for development and endowed with opportunity and hard working youth, successive governments headed by all the four parties had done nothing to tap the potential. Several industries in Puducherry had been closed and more than two lakh youth remained unemployed.
Mr. Javadekar said the Narendra Modi-led BJP government at the Centre was interested in promoting the talent and capability of the youth and this would be done in Puducherry if the BJP was voted to power.
Slams freebie promises
Criticising the AIADMK for announcing freebies in the election manifesto, he said that people do not want freebies.
Referring to the Congress-DMK alliance in the Union Territory, he alleged that the two parties had ruled on more than one occasion and had proved to be graft-ridden. The AIADMK, he charged, was headed by a leader who became mobile only during elections.
Taking a dig at the ruling AINRC, he said the party had also failed to address the issue of unemployment during the last five years.
