The Bharatiya Janata Party is gearing up to make the public meeting of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, slated for February 24, a grand success. The party’s local unit working committee met on Wednesday.

BJP local unit president V. Saminathan told The Hindu that the party workers were looking forward to welcoming the Prime Minister. “We are planning to mobilise at least 50,000 people. Each worker has been assigned the task of mobilising people,” he said.

Venue to be finalised

Mr. Saminathan said the venue of the public meeting would be finalised in a day or two after necessary clearance from various agencies. The party local unit, which had been working on the ground to improve its presence, is working out a plan to utilise Mr. Modi’s visit for its future growth. The local unit recently had been wooing heavyweights from other parties to make an electoral breakthrough in the next Assembly elections. The party is aiming to improve its presence in at least eight constituencies.
